Which do you all recommend. The big two I know of are Avia and Digital Video Essentials. However, they were made in 1999 and 2001 respectively. Are they outdated at all and is there something newer and better?

I don't think either AVIA or DVE has been updated except for a Pro version of one or the other (don't remember which). The Pro version costs a fortune and is way overkill for a regular joe just trying to get the contrast and brightness correct.

FWIW, AVIA is easier to use and navigate but costs twice as much as DVE. I have both but if I had to buy just one it would be AVIA.

Isn't there a HD-DVD version of one of them? DVE, I think. I'd be curious to see how much easier it makes video calibration easier on a hi-def display.

cheers,
