Setting up DVR with/without receiver

Audiophyte
HI,

I recently added a DVR to my system. Currently, it is only hooked up to the plasma set (audio out to plasma) and does not run through my receiver (as my DVD player does).

I want to run it through my receiver so I can listen to digital radio; however, I don't want to have to power up my receiver just to watch TV.

I want it set up so if I want to listen to music through the DVR I only have to power up the receiver (not the TV); and by the same token, if I only want to watch TV I don't want to have to power up the receiver (just the TV).

What's the best way to achieve this with the minimal signal loss (and hassle)?

The connectors on the back of the DVR are:
> optical SPDIF; Audio In (R & L); SPDIF;
> Video in and out; ethernet; Cable; RF out;
> IR; S-Video; Audio Out (R & L); Y Pb
> Pr); HDMI; USB.

Thanks for your help.

If your DVR has a spare set of audio outs simply run a pair to both the receiver and the tv. If it does not, simply connect a Y jack to the back of the DVR audio outs and then run a set of cables to both the TV and Receiver.
