I am hooking up a progresive scan Phillip dvd player to my Toshiba plasma tv. I have all the cables where they need to be. I am getting a crystal clear picture BUT, it is a blue tint. Blue is the only color on the tv. I had a sony non progresive scan dvd player on before that worked fine with the same hook up. I have it hooked up through component video out/in. I have sound, blue picture. What am I doing wrong or what setting am I missing?

Thanks W

It's sounds like the red cable is bad in your component cable set. Try changing the cables out with a set of known good cables and see if that fixes the color problem, I had the same thing happen to me when I set up my HDTV with my DVD player.

Yep, it's either the cable or the TV. If the TV gets full color on everything else but the DVD player, then it's probably the cables. Worst case, it's the DVD player, but more likely just the cables.

We had something like that happen at work, on one of the computer systems we were building. The internal KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) unit was showing a blue image that would occasionally flicker to full color. In the end, it wound up being an internal connection that was causing the problem, so we had to send the whole thing back. And those things are like two grand a pop.. hehe.

it can also happen if you plug the wrong color cable into the wrong input. i.e. the red is plugged into the red on the DVD player, but the blue input on the plasma.

By the way...since your Plasma has De-interlacer built in try sending an interlaced signal to the plamsa rather then progressive and see if the plasma does a better job making it progressive.

Thanks, the guy from Best Buy said the same thing about the component cables may be bad. Why am I getting color and a good picture with the other Sony non progresive scan dvd player?

Thanks

So, with the old unit you had it hooked up with component cables and worked fine? The new DVD is progressive and not working with same component cables?

If so, I would try a few experiments. See what happens with the new DVD player in interlaced mode from the DVD. If that works, use the TV converter to progressive mode and see what happens. Maybe it is the DVD player internal connections.
