I have a Rotel RSX-1065 (pre-HDMI) receiver, as well as a secondary Rotel RB-1050 to drive zone 2 speakers in other rooms. I just bought a Panny P50GT30 plasma and BD310 blu-ray player. Because of the lack of HDMI port in my receiver, I have an HDMI running from player to tv and an optical cable running from player to receiver. I have a second optical cable running from tv to receiver. I can't seem to get zone 2 to play the audio output from the blu-ray, even though 5.1 sound works fine on my primary speakers. I am still able to use zone 2 to hear XM, picked up by the receiver's tuner, so it isn't that zone 2 doesn't work...it just doesn't "listen" to the optical output from the blu-ray.

Could the BD310 be shutting off the optical output because of the HDMI hook up with the TV?? But then why do movies work? I'm thinking it's an audio setting on the blu-ray that I'm missing.

Help?

Your receiver (like many) will not use a digital signal for a zone 2 source. You will need to connect the analog (red & white) cables to the receiver as well and use that input when listening to zone 2.

Thanks for your help. You saved me a lot of aggravation trying to figure it out.

One quick follow up question. Since I'm bringing the digital feed from the blu-ray into my receiver on AV1, would there be an advantage to using AV2 for the analog feed for the zone 2, instead of the analog AV1 terminals?? Maybe to avoid any crossover or interference?
