I posted one question about this set-up in the sub forum, but have another question that is better for the real HT geniuses.
I am integrating my SciAtl 8300HD DVR with my denon AVR-2807 -- but I am not well versed in the "upconverting" and "scaling" features and how to optimize the cable box and denon to get the best picture possible. Also have polk surroundbar, HSU sub, cr*ppy DVD/VCR combo deck...
I am planning to connect the box and receiver using an HDMI cable and then the TV (Sharp 52/62) to the receiver using another HDMI cable.
Here are my questions:
1. The cable box has several output format settings: 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i and i can choose from among these. Should I restrict the output format to one of these or some of these and let the Denon do some work upconverting / deinterlacing (?) the signal for the display? Whats the best way to do this? Should i set up the TV/cablebox/receiver in some other way? Will the denon pass through a 720p signal from cable box to TV or will it automatically convert to best signal possible -- and will that impact the image quality
2. Do i need to connect the digital or analog audio outs from the cable box to the Denon if i am using HDMI? Should i not use HDMI for some reason?
3. Should i get my money back since i am obviously not familiar with that i have gotten myself into?
4. Should i pay someone to do this for me? Any recommendations in Charlotte, NC? Feel free to PM me or post a recommendation.
Thanks in advance.
