Set-top-box to receiver qs

Hi Folks,
New here. Apologize beforehand if my qs is out of place.
I'm playing around with the new HT I bought (polk speakers, onkyo receiver). Now, while hooking up, looks like my comcast set-top-box has only F-Connector out (the coaxial cable tv one). The receiver I have takes in component/svideo/composite for video and optical/coax/composite for audio. How do I get my cabe TV to go through the receiver?

I noticed the cable STB has RCA also on it, but when I connect the RCA to my TV/receiver, the output is only black/white. Any idea what's going wrong?

Thanks

Hook cable to tv. Hook audio out from tv to video(audio in) 1 or 2 or whatever on receiver. Set audio to fixed on tv menu. Switch receiver to whichever input you used for audio from tv. Enjoy!

That's what I did now!! But then, that m,eans I'll have to change the INPUT for TV every time I want to switch between Cable and Others (DVD/VCR). I want the video and audio to be switchable in a unified mode through the receiver.

Is there a way to convert F-Connector to RCA/something else cheaply?

In my case, if I am switching from cable to DVD, it will be a couple of hours until I have to switch back. No a big deal to me. Why would it matter if it was the tv or the receiver, just a different remote.

Radio Shack, this is what it looks like, I beleive the cost is a buck,
now what will you do with it?

LOL! Really, we are here to help. But you have to listen to the advice given or read your owners manual.

No no, I was wondering if I could convert the signal coming on my Fconnector cable tv to that of composite audio/video, not just an adapter, but a converter. Is there any ?

Zumbo, did you really like the F-connector/RCA adapter picture?

Yes! I have actually tried to use one of those for something. Can't remember. I do know it didn't work. :p

RF Modulator

Wrong, it's a RF modulater, not a demodulater which is something entirely different for AC-3 audio.. and a RF modulater converts a composite video and audio signal to an RF signal, NOT the other way around. So not only was your advice bad, it was inaccurate as well. This will not work for him, and neither will that stupid RCA to Coax converter! If you guys don't know what the F*** you are talking about, stop giving advice and stop jerking this guy around.

If your cable box has rca video out, it will be labled either video, or be yellow in color, use this to your receiver for video, and the red and white for audio.

If it only has a coax connection, connect this to the coax input of your vcr, then connect the composite outs from your vcr to your reciever. You'll have to switch between TV/VCR on your vcr to see cable, but this keeps you from having to switch inputs on your TV. Basically the receiver input will be the same for both your vcr and cable box, switching between each with the Tv/vcr button on your vcr remote. It may not be the ideal thing for you but it is what will work best with what you have.

My advice was good. Save the flames for the steam vent. You are a vet. You should know this.
