Series or parallel with active main speakers and subs?

I’m adding a pair of JL Audio e-110’s to a pair of ATC SCM19A actives, being fed from a PS Audio DirectStream dac. The ATC’s take XLR, while the subs are single ended (RCA). This being my first time with subs, I had been assuming that I’d run RCA’s through the JLA’s and then to the ATC’s us XLR adapters, i.e., in series, to get what I’ve imagined would be the cleanest crossover effect, freeing up the ATC’s to do what they are best at. But is that likely the best way to go for SQ, vs. using a parallel IC set up that keeps the XLR output from the dac in play? Or even running series, but through the ATC’s first? None of the e-110 reviews I’ve seen involve active main speakers or discuss their wiring, but I’m guessing with their main speakers being nonamplified they are using parallel wiring from an amp or two. Thanks,
