I want to know just who the hell she thinks she is. The nerve of this woman to speak to a GENERAL like this. I would like to know if others feel this way, or is it just me. I think it is Time for Senators to start respecting the people that keep this country safe. Anyone who was watch C-span over the last 3 years knows exactly what I am talking about. Watch here

What's the big deal. Maybe he had called male senators, "senator," and she was just making a point. I don't think she was rude.

This is just the straw that pushed me over the edge. Did you see how they talked when they delivered the Petraeus Report?

Did you see how many stars were on his jacket? And she thinks she has worked hard. Give me a break. If a Texas Senator had spoken like that, everyone in this state would let him know about it. Just my thoughts. Had me fuming!

He was calling her male counterparts sir and being as respectful as can be to them and her.
What got me was how dismissive she was, " call me senator, yes thank you", before he had even replied to her.
These folks, who are supposed to be our representatives, have so much power now, are really starting to feel their oats. They think they are above all us plebeians and know better than us. Thank God they' re protecting us from ourselves.
Notice I did not mention a particular party. She was just the most recent to telegraph her self impotance.
They all need to be replaced.
If anyone starts a push for term limit laws, I'll sign it.

The world is filled with these types. Just try calling a state trooper "sir" or "officer" and you'll get the same response. "I'm a Trooper. See here on my chest? It clearly says Trooper." In a conversation with someone I didn't know at a party, he interrupted me when I called him sir. Apparently he had worked very hard for his PhD and expected me to call him Doctor. I replied, "sure Doc" and went on with what I was saying. I can appreciate that people have worked hard for their titles, but that doesn't mean that they should be so full of themselves that it's now OK for them to act like a horse's butt. Other people work hard too ya know.

Wouldn't be the first time I got worked up over what others seem silly. Which is the reason I posted it in the Stem Vent, on an A/V site. I have followed this site for a long time and come the respect the views of several members (you included). I wouldn't say that it was my intent to cause a stir over right wing/left wing politics, or major controversy. If I wanted to do that I would have posted this in a political blog. I am just simply stating that the way she down dressed (and you know that is what she did, you can see it in her face)the General (even if he is with the Core of Engineers) I feel to be inappropriate. So much so that it pisses me off. :)

That was the edited version of the video. It actually went like this:

"Excuse me, could you please call me b**** instead of Ma'am. I worked hard to get that title."

I've never been a fan of Boxer. She's always comes across as very arrogant and "above" everyone else.

Believe it or not most senators are that way. I have done a boatload of sound gigs on Capitol Hill and all around the DC beltway. They all think they are better than regular folks. Are you that suprised that their attitude is such as it is,with people holding them in hi regard as they do.These idiots have ruined or country and I agree we should throw all of them out on their A** and start new. And we should hold senators from our states responsible for screwing up our system PERIOD.

Agreed.
I'm sure that they'll try to make some legislation that exempted them from prosecution for anything they do like always.

I think that the appropriate way to address them in congress is by 'Senator...' or 'Representative...' especially at hearings, a formal setting.
Her action doesn't take anything away from the General, nor was it down dressing, just a reminder.

I am sure you don't call your doctor like that, right? Yes, there are some hierarchy in society with titles. That is just the way it is. I don;t see anything wrong with it. The same hierarchy exists in the military. I doubt no one would call that general 'sure gen':D

Because of the years I have spent working very hard indeed, I would like to be referred to as dr. Alex.
Notice the lower case 'd'? That's because it stands for drywaller. :D
