Dave, ive bought & sold hundreds of pcs of hifi gear over the internet so take my advice as advice & not criticisim, you will never sell your entire system in one shot, buyers with $3,000 to spend are not looking for complete systems they are looking for components, also buyers who are looking for complete systems are not looking to buy used gear because they are new to the game & are scared of buying used, more often than not they are not looking to spend alot of cash because the ht systems they are used to seeing new at best buy are cheap.
Try listing each peice with its own seperate price, shipping & forms of payment are also important, with pick up only your severely limiting your customer base & unless your giving the stuff away at a price that resellers can make a big profit on chances are that in person pick up will not yeild much attention or results.
Ebay is going to be your ticket to sell but you must be willing to pack & ship anywhere in the USA & not charge handeling charges or any other fee, sellers who charge handeling fee's sell slower, for less overall price & less volume than sellers who dont charge these fee's.
Taking paypal is a must if you want to sell quickly, buyers think that paypal offers a ton of protection & are scared of sellers who dont accept paypal,if you dont want to eat the 4% fee that paypal charges sellers to use the service than write in your auction that you will take paypal but buyers must contact you first to talk about making payment arrangements through paypal, this way you can tell the buyer you'd be happy to take paypal but they must add 4% to the final price, you must not write in your auction that the buyer must pay for using paypal, this can only be done in private with the buyer, ebay owns paypal & will not stand for it,taking personal checks & money orders are a must also.
One last thing, telling everybody that your basement flooded & thats why your selling all your gear will kill any chance of ever selling the system, even though you disclosed that you got it all out in time & nothing got wet buyers will not believe you, buyers will think the gear got wet & you dried it out & are now running a scam, listing the reason for selling as needing cash for other things will scare buyers also, they tthink that your broke & might rip them off.
Its nobodies business why your selling & most buyers dont believe any story as to why somethings being sold anyways, the best thing to list as a reason for selling is a massive upgrade & leave it at that.
Before anybody leaps all over me full disclosure of the gears condition has nothing to do with the flood as long as the gear wasnt damaged or got wet, full disclosure speaks as to the condition of the gear & any known defects not to personal reasons for selling as long as no damage or faults are being hidden.
