Selecting Dolby atmos

I watched a movie tonight and at the main menu under audio I selected Dolby atmos sound track. My Avpa1hd pre/pro does not handle Dolby atmos but I selected it anyway to see what would happen thinking because my pre/pro does not handle it that I would get no sound at all.Instead my Avp converted that sound track to TrueHD but I noticed that in the audio menu there is no TrueHD sound track. The only other option in English was DTS-MA.Why did my Avp convert it to True HD and does this happen to every Dolby atmos sound track being selected when my Avp does not carry that privilege.

Yes, Atmos is a TrueHD mix with object metadata added to it.
But, be warned, depending on the disc and your player, the TrueHD portion of the Atmos mix may not be "complete" or the same as, the non-Atmos TrueHD mix, so you may not be hearing everything in some instances by choosing good option.

Thanks mate,it certainly sounded good compared to my dtsma soundtrack which I usually prefer but the TrueHD mix sounded better coming from centre channel for that movie.By the way the movie was "Fantastic beasts".
