Hi Everyone,
I’m a long time listener but first time poster to Audioholics and I’m hoping some of you can help me make a decision between the The Marantz SR4002 and the The Yamaha RX-V663. Is there a glaring difference between the two that I should be aware of that would ease my decision between the two? I’m including what I know about the two below. I’m not as well informed about AV as many of you so some of my observations my not be completely accurate. This receiver is for a finished basement room with wall mounted Panasonic TH-50PZ700U plasma.
One of the staff of Audioholics was nice enough to point out that both units will switch and handle HDMI 1.3a but that the biggest difference is in video up conversion. The Marantz SR4002 will only convert S-video outputs to component video output. The Yamaha RX-V663 will convert 720p and 1080i to 1080p HDMI. The other major difference is the Yamaha will decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.
All of my video sources are high quality, a HD DVR from Comcast and an up converting Oppo DVD player so I don’t have to worry about up converting low quality video sources so a high end video processor isn’t too important for me.
I’m also trying to make a decision on the EMP compact speaker system so any thoughts on these speakers would be appreciated. Additionally, I have a Velodyne VX10 sub that I’ll be pairing with they system.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
