Seeking advice for tweaking a new system

Hi,

I've taken the plunge...and purchased an Onkyo TX.SR602 and Klipsch RF-15 speakers. I already had a reasonable good DVD player/recorder made by LG and and Xbox with monster S-video.

- Digital cable to A/V receiver - coaxial audio and s-videa
- DVD to A/V - Toslink and s-video
- xbox to A/V - component and s-video(as good as it gets)
- A/V to TV - component and s-video
- powered through a monster power center stage 2 HTS 2000

Also, i'm bypassing the Receiver to the TV with a coaxial, so that my girlfriend need not turn on the receiver to watch TV. And I'm connecting the DVD directly to the cable box with component(all thats left after connecting it to the A/V reciever) so that I can record to DVD from cable.

Okay, now the questions!
Is there a more efficient method of connecting the DVD to the cable box which does not involve component directly from the cable box?

There is some mid to low end frequency 'noise'(interference?) when the system is turned up...way up...is this normal?

Any other suggestions? Any tweaks? I'm a newbie and have no good ideas about advanced tweaking, but am careful when making connection.

regards,
Dan
