SED dies young...Canon upset over miscarrige?

I just read an article over at TGdaily that pretty much indicated that Canon had lost the rights to part of the crucial technology behind SED. So is my long wait over...will I never have the perfect flat screen that I've been dreaming about for almost two years now? Lord save me...now what TV do I lust after for surreal colors and believeable black levels?

Found the article at Yahoo for those interested

Look... three companies fighting over technology that may never hit mass market in the numbers enjoyed by LCD and plasma... While I do not hope this is true, I have always thought SED, like LCOS, will have difficulty quickly trickling down to entry-level consumers in the ways LCD and plasma have.

It's just so hard to penetrate those markets at this point.

You're completely right, it was a white elephant from the git go, LCD and plasma for lack of a better word have cornered the flat panel market and as prices continue to plummet, where is the incentive right now, to introduce new expensive tech when all the big guys are recouping their investments.

I suppose we shouldn't be suprised if Sony's OLED takes a follows a similiar path of misfortune. Perhaps not killed by patent law but rather just an inability for a floundering electronics company to focus its efforts.

In 10+ years, when LCD & plasma have become stagnant technologies with bottom trolling price the need for new will rise again and SED will have another shot at life.

Hey, in 10 years we'll all have an electrode implanted in our visual cortex. No need for screens:rolleyes:
