Second Guessing my choice for surrounds: Energy C-3

Hi. I ordered a pair of Energy C-3's for $250 for the pair from Goodguys. I only bought a stand for them--VTI UF series I think for about $120. Now I add that up and its about $400 with tax, etc. Then I look and that's about the price of the C5 floorstanders from Goodguys. Would I have been better off getting the C5's for left and right surrounds or the C-3's with stands??? I haven't received either the stands or speakers so I might be able to return both with no restocking fees or whatever--although I'd have to pay shipping.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Optimally you want to have your surrounds above ear level. This will be tough to do with floor speakers. If the stand that you had in mind will not achieve the optimal level (most won't as not many are made to the needed height ) then I would go with the C-5 as it should go a little deeper. Beware that the C-5 is only 36” tall. Make sure that it will clear your couch if that is where you plan on putting them.

I've seen stands of all sizes. I have my B&W 603's on 8" stands and my 601's on 27" stands and they are both ear level. Those C3's were half price so i would use them for mains until i can get something more and move them to be killer surrounds. Just a thought.

Well my mains are C9's. Those are some pretty big mo-fo's.

The stand I got was 30" and the C-3's are about 16" tall. Someone was saying that the C5's are only 36" tall, so that might not be high enough. If I put the C5's on stands, then the price difference goes back up....

get a taller stand.

get a taller stand, or, wall mount them, and sell the stands.
