Let me caveat the following with the fact that I am a rabid Seal fan, and have been since 1992, which now makes me an aging rabid Seal fan.

Just picked up Seal's new release "System" today. While most of you may know Seal for his "pop" hits such as "Crazy" and "Kiss from a Rose" there is much more there for the exploration if you are looking.

Seal has a unique talent for writing music and lyrics that, like good art or literature, seems to mold itself around your particular experience and provide you with new insight and hope. I'm not sure how he does this, but as I've revisited his music over the years I've found myself amazed at how the songs can simultaneoulsy invoke part memories but at the same time take on new meanings relevant to my current situation and experiences.

The recording itself is good but most tracks are inclined toward the dance beat as opposed to the subtlety most people use for evaluating audio systems it will likely not find its wat onto anyones "reference" material for speakers (well, maybe some subs).

BUT, if you are looking for a great CD for driving with great potential for more depth if listened to and focused on in a quiet environment I highly recommend it and Seal's other albums.

In particular, these tracks are emerging as my early favorites:

If its in my mind, its on my face
The Right Life
Amazing

Enjoy...

Clint,

Have you picked it up yet? Curious of your impressions on it.

Seal IV had some great reference material on it... great recording.

System is more "dance" than Seal IV, I'd love to hear "The Right Life" on one of your reference systems!

I bought a Seal CD once (I forget the title.) I liked the mellower songs on it, but not the dance-oriented material. I ended up selling it (I can't remember for sure, but it might have been tainted by traces of rap. I have tried to eliminate all hints of rap from my collection.)

No, not yet. I have the rest of his DVD-As and they are pretty good.

If the past is any indication he'll release the DVD-A as a stand-alone in a few months, followed by a DVD-A/CD double pack a few months after that.

Can't wait for the DVD-A. I understand why they don't release it right up front, but really wish they would.

If you like Seal, go check out his stuff on Rhapsody.com... there are some tracks there (like the acoustic sessions, which are incredible) that are not available is physical format.

I'll wait for the DVD-A/set most likely. Thanks for the heads up :)
