Pioneer SC-1227-K (CAD$299):
- similar to Elite SC-63
- 125W x 7 (1kHz)
- Marvell Qdeo up to 1080p / 24fps
- MCACC calibration
- Pre-amp Output 7.1 Channel (9.2 Terminals)
- not THX certified

Onkyo TX-NR727 (CAD$499):
- 125 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7%, 2 channels driven)
- Marvell Odeo 4K (up to 4096 x 2160) Upscaling
- Audyssey MultEQ calibration
- Pre-amp Output subwoofer x 2 only
- Select2 Plus THX certified

I like the SC-1227-K for the price and 7.2 pre-outs but no 4K capability so if I upgrade my TV to 4k it will not be able to handle the video.

In terms of amplifier power, who is better (Pioneer 125W x 7 while Onkyo 125W x 2)?

Is it worth to pay $200 more to get 4K capability?

I'll only put my two cents worth in once because that's all it will take. I owned both an Onkyo TX-NR808 and a TX-NR626. BOTH had problems. The 808 went to the scrap heap and the 626 was sold for junk, not working.

I wouldn't have another Onkyo if you gave it to me.
