I have had it with my local cable co. not offering HD programming. so here goes. Direct TV says I cannot get the local channels of a nearby city(approx 20 local channels) I am about 40 minutes away small town with about 4 local channels. anyway around this...Pay off the installer, use a diff billing address??? comon its sat tv shouldn't I be able to get channels from anywhere?

Different billing address I know works. I knew people who were 100+ miles outside of Washington DC with a vacation home. Their primary billing address was next to DC, so they got all the local DC channels.

Not sure why DirecTV doesn't just let you get the channels for a market you want!

Live in AZ but really want your SF 49ers football games? Get the SF local stations!

Just silly.

Have to make sure your billing address is within the transponder range

Your local's will be transmitted on a specific "spot" transonder, which has a limited coverage area. If you're looking at Direct TV, the tivocommunity forum has a Direct TV section and the experts there will know where to find the chart. If you want to receive the "local" channels, you'll need to find an address within the same region of the country.
