I use the optical out of my sat receiver to feed my HK325. I have a Sanyo DVD recorder plugged into a video record loop. When I record shows of the sat, the sound is all 'watery' & the dialogue indistinct. If I run the analogue out from the sat to the recorder, the sound's fine. I assume this is because the HK325, like most receivers, won't convert digital audio to analogue, hence no digital sources to zone 2. The 325 defaults to digital even if I go into the menu & set it to analogue. Even if this worked, I'd have to remember to set it back to digital after, so this isn't the best set up.
The problem with the way I have it set up is that if I want to record from another source, (I have a DirecTV r10 with a bunch of shows on it), I'd have to switch cables, & I'm looking for a cleaner, permanent fix.
Would a y-adapter run in reverse work if only 1 source is on? What about a source selector? A liquidation place near me has a Philips automatic selector for $30. Are there any other options I'm not thinking of?
Thanks for any help.
