Does anyone own this projector? I was wondering if it is $1000 better than the Optoma HD72, or Panny AE900U:confused:

I just ordered one. My runco 930 CRT is starting act up. I will let you know what I think after I get it setup. I know that I will lose blacks but this should make a nice projector for me until a 1080p DLP 3chipper come along or Sony comes out with a Ruby 2.

I think it is definitely a step up from the Optoma in it's setup versatility and that the lumens listed are much closer to calibrated lumen output instead of listing a 'max' lumen output like so many other manufacturers. A little honesty goes a long way in my belief of a reputable product.

The projector itself isn't nearly as versatile in setup as a Z4 or AE900, but it offers lens shift on DLP which, at that price, is a big perk if you need it.

But, if you don't need the lens shift, and your theater is dark, and your screen size is about 100" so you don't need the extra brightness, then I would think that the HD72 would be fine.

So, it is, once again, an 'IT DEPENDS' answer. Plus, if you have the chance to see the AE900 or Z4 those are two units that may make you very happy for a few years until 1080p becomes more prevalent in the marketplace. I personally am recommending those units for people who are pretty sure they will want 1080p front projection a few years down the road.

Pany vs Sanyo

So which one should I buy - Panasonic900 or SanyoZ4? Panasonic seems to be little brighter lumen-wise and I need it for my walk-out basement. Would I get better picture from Pany in that settings? Price-wise you can get Pany for 1700$ delivered, minus 400$ in rebates, plus 40 extra rentals from Blockbuster. It sounds to me like a better deal than Sanyo Z4 (best internet price of 1725$ plus free replacement bulb). Of course, Sanyo has a better warranty - but those things should be pretty reliable - am I right?
Also, is it true, that Sanyo is much quiter than Pany?
