Samsung Home Theater Installation

I just bought an HT-C6600 Samsung home theater system. I am tryingt to hook up the system with AT&T Uverse. I initially set up the Uverse box by HDMI cable to the HTS and then used another HDMI cable from the HTS to the TV. However, the screen came up with a pink fuzz without any picture. I then hooked up the Uverse box straight to the TV and used a separate optical wire from the box to the home theater. I also kept an HDMI cable from the home theater to the TV for blu rays. The picture and sound are great when watching regular TV. However, when I try to play a blu ray, the picture still does not come out, although I do get sound. I then hooked up a set of component wires from the home theater to the TV and try to play a blu ray. This time the blu ray played with sound, but it appears to be playing through the component cable as opposed to the HDMI.

I have tested the HDMI inputs on the TV and they appear to work. Does this mean that the HDMI output on the home theater system is damaged, or may there be another problem? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Something is wrong, return it.

For that matter, you may want to consider that this may not be the way to go at all. HTiB (home theater in a box) systems are generally very poor in quality. While it does show on their website that this DOES have a couple of HDMI inputs, your money may be better spent on a more traditional home theater package for similar money.

Not sure what you paid, but $300-$500 can get you started on the right path, and that Samsung system is not at all what I would call the right path. This is obviously your choice on how to proceed, but if you want to get some gear that will last you for years and offer you some industry standard upgrade options and reliability, then I wouldn't stick with that Samsung.

I appreciate your advice. I am just trying to figure out whether something is wrong with the system to begin with. I want to make sure that I am not doing anything wrong.

I wonder if it's a resolution issue? What is the resolution capabilty of the TV?

The resolution capability of the TV is 1080i/720p. The blu ray player is obviously 1080p. However, it is supposed to be able to play DVDs with upscaling capability. I should also note that I have the same problem when I try to play DVDs (i.e., I have sound, but no picture).

It all depends on what you've set the output resolution of the unit to. Read your owners manual.

Almost all HDMI enabled devices output at 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p so that they can be compliant with all HDTVs on the market currently. So, you need to check the settings of the player to ensure you are outputting video in the correct mode.

Page 30 of your manual goes through some of this...
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201006/20100603161718093/HT-C6600_XAA_0504.pdf

Resolution is dicussed on page 33.

It appears that you can connect either component or composite video to your TV to get an image on screen. If so, then why not do this to ensure that your video output settings are all setup correctly?

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. The player has a automatic setting so that it will use the highest output resolution that is compatible with the TV. I used this setting initially without success. I then went in and set it specifically to 1080i, again without success. I plan on calling Samsung tonight to see if they have any suggestions.

I just got home from work. I tried setting the system to 720p and 480p. However, I still got the same screen, which flashes from red to pink snow, without any picture.

I am going to try and call Samsung.
