I looked it up on Amazon.com. There is only one review of the Samsung hl-r5078w and it's not very good. It specifically mentions the game mode on the tv, and again the review is not exactly 'rave'. You might want to check it out.

I believe that the HL-R series is from 2005 and that HL-S is the new line of Samsung DLP's. So you may want to look into the newer models unless you are getting this one at a good discount.

The HL-S's are the new line and are supposed to have fixed the game lag that plagued the HL-R line. I have read a bunch of reviews from HL-R owners that experience "to severe to play" game lag.

There is a new "Game Mode" on the HL-S's that is supposed to turn off non-essential functions and just send the game signal to the screen and reduce lag. I have not seen it first hand, but will. I am 95% certain I am purchasing the HL-S4666W in late July/early August.

Add: I also read somewhere in my web travels that the 360 and PS3 should not experience the lag as badly as the PS2 and Xbox, since they will be sending a HD signal through the TV. The PS3, particularly, will have the most reduced lag since it will be able to be connected via HDMI. Again, I only read these somewhere, I am paraphrasing, and I'm not getting any younger. Take this info with a grain of salt.

Game lag is apparently an issue, but the picture on that Samsung DLP is *outstanding*.

One other issue with DLPs is limited vertical viewing angle. They are also of course not as flat as plasma TV's, at about 12" thick.. and you'll need to replace the bulb every 18 months or so at about $175 a pop. But the picture on that TV is better than anything else in the price range, and better than even the best plasmas.

If I am see it correctly it appears not to be a wide screen. Since you mention watching movies, are you sure this is what you want?

It is most definitely widescreen.

I have the HL-R5067w and don't experience any type of lag when playing my xbox, or xbox 360. So the new model should be even better, I say go for it, they are great tv's with an awesome picture.

My mistake. I just took another look and realised that with the thin bezel and only the speakers below the screen it looked more squarish than it really is.
