Samsung BDP 1400 internet?

How the heck do you get this thing to connect to the internet when you have a moden and ethernet cable plugged in to the back of the unit. THis smae process worked to update my Denon 3808.... Anybody done this yet?

AFAIK, this unit does not have network capability.

I have the same Samsung player at home. It seems I was able to connect when I first set it up. I have not done an upgrade since so I do not remeber the steps that I went through. I will however do another upgrade tonight to see what it all entails. I do know from prior experience that if you have firewall filters on your home network your player may be getting blocked by those. Until I get back to you why don't you post what steps you remember doing and describe where the unit is getting hung up. JMP

Sorry, I stand corrected. I looked it up and it does have an ethernet port.

If everything is the same, then I would guess you need to make sure you're player is obtaining an IP address. Sometimes you have to turn DHCP on to do this. If it isn't, the easiest way to manually program a player is to plug a laptop in, right down its IP/GW/Mask and then manually input those in to the player when you reconnect it.

If you are having problems past that, then I'm not sure. It sounds like you are going straight from the DSL modem to your player so there shouldn't be any firewalls involved. Good luck

I have the modem sitting next to my 3808 and the Sammy for the internet updates since I had an extra one laying around. It is a straight shot from the modem to the player so no firewalls involved.

OK - I get hung up when I go to select the system upgrade option and then the screen pops up, cannot connect to internet, check network setup.

My network setup is
DHCP -in on
ip address - 000 000 000 000
subnet mask is 255 255 255 000
gateway is 000 000 000 000
DNS auto
primary dns 000 000 000 000
secodary dns is 000 000 000 000

I know I need ip addresses but where do I get the numbers to input in these spots?

I just completed the update on my BD-P1400 and it worked fine. (I actually had to run it twice because my player was so out of date.) I checked my settings and noted that DHCP was set to off. That means that I manually input the IP settings. I have a cable modem and am running a standard Linksys network in my home. It seems that to get the IP address of the player, I went to the other computers on my network a looked at what their IP addresses were. Then I just increased the highest one by "1" and it worked. Not knowing how you are set up in your house, there may not be much else I can do for you.

You have two other options: You can leave DHCP to on and keeping trying to get it to assign an address automatically, or you can download the firmware from the Samsung website and burn it to a disk. You may want to get instructions off the Samsung website for burning the disk also.

Thanks for the reply John! I just burned the disc after downloading a ISO burning program. It worked out finally! All updated now. Jeez......
