Chromecast arrived via Santa. I have a 50" Samsung 7000 TV which has an optical sound output jack (3.5mm). Got a 3.5 to optical cable connector and tried to connect the optical sound output from the TV to the Optical input (Pioneer receiver has 2 optical sound input ports). I tried both without getting any sound.

Am I missing something?

Is there an alternative to using the optical sound output from the TV to the Receiver?

My goal is to satisfy the missus, who wants to see YouTube video's through the TV, but use my surround sound form the Pioneer....

Help, please help. Thanks.

The trouble is a TV should not have a 200 page manual.

Does your receiver have HDMI inputs? If so put your Chrome cast into an HDMI port of your receiver.

If you don't have HDMi inputs on the receiver, then you will have to use the optical connection. Make sure these are enabled on the TV and the receiver in the set up menus.

Welcome to the forum!

The bolded statement surprises me. I have Apple computers with an analog/mini-Toslink jack, but I wasn't aware of any TVs that have one. What is the actual model number of your TV?

I agree with TLS that it's probably better just to plug the Chromecast into your receiver. Also, as he said, if you use the optical connection - you need to make sure that the TV optical audio output is enabled and that you have the optical input on the receiver assigned to whichever source you are selecting on the receiver.

So thanks to the respondents. Plugged Chromecast into an HDMI Receiver port. All is well. Great suggestion. Sometimes the easiest solutions are right in front of you, however without the wacky web you can't see them. Thanks again.
