well i stopped by CC this after noon and they have the aquos 46" 1080p LCD for 2199 open box, and the sammy 46" 1080p LCD for 2399 open box...

are these good prices? based on features and PQ which would you get? i am thinking about the sharp...

Both of those are pretty good prices. I think the pq between the sharps and sammys are similar. One thing to note is some people have banding issues with their sharps, I have looked at mine and cant see anything. I am not too sure about common problems with Samsungs though.

In the end its just whichever you like more. They are pretty similar TVs.

In my personal experience, Samsung is no better than anyone else in terms of standing by their product. I purchased at Samsung HDTV that should have had a QAM and ATSC tuner. Well, I had to have it repaired one time and when it was repaired, they replaced the electronics inside with a board that no longer contained the QAM tuner. I called Samsung and tried to reason with them that this TV no longer met the specifications for which I had purchased it for and they offered me $150 if I returned the TV to them.
Now I understand what they mean when they say "specifications may be subject to change." The problem is, I know the TV had a QAM tuner before because when I first got it, when programming channels, it would ask questions referring to the QAM function. When it was repaired, it no longer asked those questions, but my owners manual clearly shows the screens involved with the QAM tuner.

Anyway, don't think for a second that Samsung will stand behind their product any better than other manufacturers.

I've always had problems with Samsung's customer service, but I've still always loved and trusted their TVs. My opinion is they make TVs that are reliable enough that I won't have to deal with their customer service department. However, I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you, Thunder18.

The choice between Samsung and Sharp is one that I am currently debating myself, Sounds Good. The LCDs that both these companies produce seem to be equally awesome. If you don't mind buying over the internet from an authorized dealer, I suggested checking pricegrabber.com for lower prices (of new gear) than CC's open box prices. Just make sure it's and authorized dealer and you're getting the full original manufactuer's warranty.
