so ya, ive been checking this forum off and on for a few months now, you folks seem to be pretty damn knowledgeable and i am still basically clueless in general.. really wish i could make a first post that actually contributed something to the forum, but im begining to doubt that will ever actually happen.... So its the 1st post what do i buy question.

I just got what im hoping is a pretty dope panasonic PTAE1000U lcd projector.. now i'm needing some good audio equipment to go along with it. Looking to drop about $2500 give or take $500, will be needing receiver and speakers and thats it aside from cables, etc (right? haha). So despite my expensive new visual component, i am probably more concerned with how music will sound more than movies.. altho i'm assuming both will be pretty good at this level. Also, i am more concerned with high quality sound (both in the speakers and sub) especially at high volume, as opposed to just tremendous power, but obviously i want something with some oomf as well. Seems like for music i basically just need a nice 4.1 surround setup, but since i will obviously be watching some good movies too, 5.1 surround seems like a nice compromise between 7.1 and 4.1?? If i'm wrong, i am definitely flexible there too... Should also probly point out that the room for this will be approx. 16' x 14' or so (rectangular in shape).. was hoping to put the speakers on shelves in each upper corner of the room, but my acoustic knowledge is even less than my general audio knowledge, so maybe ya'll can give some input on that as well. So hopefully thats all the basic info you would need to create my mini little dream setup. Let me know what you would do if you had this cash to spend. Thank you in advance for your help, sorry for the long read.. totally understand if you say eff it and dont respond or read this.

ok, ONE final thing- will be looking to have this all hooked up with a computer and video game consoles as well if that makes any difference.. Thanks again guys!!

Welcome, for starters I suggest you IMMEDIATELY purchase an HSU VTF-3 MK3 that’s on a limited time sale for $704 shipped.

Your room isn’t too big and a good 5.1 bookshelf/sub system will perform well. I’d lean toward an Ascend Acoustics CBM-170/CMT-340 Center combo up front with multi-polar surrounds from Def Tech, Polk, or Axiom. The location and type of surround will be more dependent on your listening position relative to wall boundaries around it. If the LP is against the rear wall, multi-poles may not be the preferred option.

A current receiver in the $500 range from Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon (in a couple of months), Pioneer will provide the features and power necessary for this setup.

thanks for the reply Rat.. ended up ordering the sub yesterday!! haha..

any specific receiver model you like?? or are they all more or less the same in this price range?

Listening postition will often be against the rear wall... guess i'll have to look into that. Anyways, thanks for the feedback.
