So, I've been running my computer in "Safe Mode" the past few days cause I can't get it to fly right in normal mode. Its like the "why don't they just make the entire plane out of the little black box?" joke. It actually makes me feel safe and I've never been so efficient. Anybody seen my beer?

Uh....are you serious or drunk I can't tell....haha.....no but honestly are you serious?

Safe Mode is meant to be a fail safe to load if you are having Driver, software, middleware, or hardware issues and you can't get the PC to boot properly. On most installations booting to safe mode will disable most of the 3rd party drivers that are installed and either not load a driver or load a generic Windows driver. It also only starts the minimum as far as Windows Services go so you may lose functionality. On the other hand if all your doing is surfing [strike]porn[/strike] the internet have fun!

Yeah, I'm fully aware of what safe mode does and I'm also fully fed up with what my computer has been up to.... I just cant seem to get it to work no matter how I configure the boot properties (msconfig) so... in a need to return emails and for basic office junk I really have just been using safe mode the past few days... Hopefully this weekend I can figure out what has me freezing up. Sucks. At least I can operate..

Sounds like a full backup and a fresh install are in order.....when in doubt, reformat. :)
You know what my dad always told me, a tit in the hand is worth 2 in the mouth...or was that the other way around....

I fully intend on reformatting- hence the steam vent.... I've uninstalled everything I can think of and for some reason I can't even get the system restore tab to show up even after multiple registry edits.. I just dont know.. I may just continue to use in safe mode.. although.. that does avoid an audioholics approach given no sound support whatsoever....

Just for git and shiggles.. any idea how to start windows installer in win7 safe mode.. i can't seem to find a work around.

Work around, Doug, not reach around...

Best and easiest way to do a backup is back up C:\users\"your user acct"... what ever the "acct name" may be.... that should save everything you could possibly need to save and then you can reload windows fast and easy - and drag n drop that folder right back into windows, make sure you make another user acct with the same name....

Shouldn't take more then an hour - I hope you not using Internet Explorer as your browsers and you have a decent virus protection.... - I use Eset NOD32 antivirus, it uses minimal resources and I never - see it pop up anything, maybe a couple times a year running firefox with adblock add on....
