SACD playback problems

I just bought a Samsung Dvd player (dvd-hd841). It supports the playback of Sacd and dvd audio. I hooked it up to an Onkyo receiver (HT-R520) using the multi channel output on the player and the input on the receiver. It looks like everything is done correctly to me but when I play a SACD I only get sound from the front right speaker and the sub. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks!

Double check connections and if on inspection, all cables are seated and correct, then check your cables for opens. Highly unlikely but it's worth testing before you ask for a replacement for the Samsung..

I just helped a friend install one. The cheaper model. He's is working fine. Nice unit.

Not all SACD's are multi-channel, it may be a stereo only disk. If it is a mc disk, make sure you tell the player to play the mc layer.

by mc you mean multi channel? How can I tell the player that? On my remote there is a button labeled "sacd/cd" when I hit that I can toggle between sacd mode and regular cd mode. is that what you mean? Thanks for your help guys

On my player(Yamaha 2300), there is a 2ch/multi channel button on the remote. The player will show what speakers are active om the front panel.

OK, looked at the manual for your player. Put a SACD in your player. Hit the INFO button. Scroll down to AUDIO. You will see an option there to switch to Multi Channel. At least that is what the manual says. Good luck!

I've got an HD841 and it's a terrible sounding CD and SACD player. It gives me a headache to listen to it for more than 30 minutes, hooked up to my main audio system. I use it just an DVD player on my el-cheapo video system, and since I listen to video at relatively low volumes it's tolerable, but overall I can't recommend it. I don't listen to very many components in the $200 price class, but there has to be better sounding competition. I'm just not sure what they are.

I'm happy with it so far as an sacd player but I think the up-scaling is bogus. It looks grainy at 1080i and and at 720p I can't really tell a difference from 480p. I have no gripes about the sound.

On my Yamaha receiver, I have to select mc input along with the set-up on the dvd.
