SACD DVD player connections

i just bought my first SACD yesterday, my dvd player is the samsung HD-951 I believe. now, my question is, how should i connect the dvd player to my HK AVR 235, via 2 analong cables (red, and white) or use the 5.1 connection that the dvd player has... i think i read somewhere that using a digital connection will not decode SACD I may be wrong though. does it make a difference or not? i havent yet tried it yet, so im just curious as to what route i should go with.

You must use the analog 5.1 output to get the benefit of SACD and DVD-A and your recvr (or pre-amp) must have a multi-channel analog input for this work correctly.

one more question, do i use some type of special connectors or just regular analog cables will be fine? im seeing some online for over $125!!! saying its specially made for SACD combatible players.

Any reasonably well made coax cables with RCA connectors will do. $125 for 5 cables isn't overly excessive ($25 apiece) but they certainly won't be 'specially made for sacd players' - that is marketing at its best.

Bluejeans has a 6 cable bundle that should do the trick. $80 for 3ft. These guys make quality stuff and have great customer service.

Also note, you will still want to have a digital connection for movies, and allow the receiver to handle bass management for normal DVDs. You can let the player handle this as well, but IMO, the receivers generally do this better.

Well, if you can afford the bundle from Blue Jeans, go for it, as you'll never have the need/urge to upgrade again. Broadcast quality is as good as it gets. That said, if you're on more of a budget (like me), I would go for these. They're not fancy, and they don't have the greatest shielding (like the Bluejeans). But for a short run, they shouldn't have any noise problems.

Just lying around

I just used some old audio intercoonects I had lying around. These are low voltage/current and low frequencey signals and so far so good. I like the idea of them being bundled together like the ones I have seen in the suggestions, but my audio parts box was closer and cheaper.

This is for my Sony dvp ns975 playing through a Denon 3805

That's always an option, but the color coding on a bundle is convenient bonus to buying the set.

nice, i too am more budget minded, something about spending $125 on cables just doesnt feel right, plus thats as much as i spend on the dvd player itself.... thanks for the link, ill probably go with those...

It's all in a scale of economy. I didn't check the price point of the player, or I wouldn't have recommended those cables No need to have cables that cost as much or more than the player, though in reality, we are talking about 6 cables, so I wouldn't call that an out of the question price for good cables.

You can save a ton of money on RCA cables by going to the car audio section at your local hifi.

The guy at the store actually led me on to them. I was ready to plunk down $100+ on 3 packs (2 cables per) of Acoustic Research cables, and he comes over and tells me he has good quality car audio RCA's (gold plated, very heavy sheilding) 6 for $30. He said car audio cables have to be good quality because of all the vibrations and engine noise, but they are had much cheaper because of the different market demands.

Anyway, I've compared them to some Monster cable I had bought years ago for stereo cables, and there's not a bit of difference to my ear.
