S-Video Connections

Hi there I'm new and I have a question about connections with S-Video leads.

I am in Australia :)

I have a receiver which has s-video and RCA ins and outs on it. Can I use RCA ins (like from my DVD, Video, Cable) and S-Video out to my TV?? Or does it have to be svideo in and svideo out?

It depends on the receiver you are using. Many of today's receivers well upconvert a composite video signal to s-video, some will even upconvert to component video. However since you don't mention having component video as an option, I doubt that your receiver is in a class that would have the upconvert option. But we need to know your receiver make and model to give a positive answer based on facts, not assumptions.

he's right. Some of the newer receivers will convert the signals to S-Video. But there are many that don't.

If your receiver doesn't, you'll have to connect both S-Video and Video Out to your TV.

My receiver is a Pioneer VSXD514. I bought it about a month ago with a speaker package.

My TV is Toshiba Rear-Pro

Is it okay to connect both S-Vid and composite vid out to the TV? It says in the instructions for the TV not to do that!!!
