I've been having this issue for awhile.

When I use the 663 to listen to CDs using either the discrete inputs or optical and then switch it over to watch TV via HDMI I lose the audio. The audio lights blink incessantly and no audio is passed through. The only fix is to cycle the receiver off and on. Has anyone else come across a similar problem with the 663 or other Yamahas?

I'm actually going to be switching the Cable TV back to component and optical later today to see if that is a viable workaround.

I've not had any issues with my 663, it's been a great receiver for me.

I have the same issue with my RX-V1800 and Oppo player, although it does straighten it's self in a few seconds.
It's an HDMI handshake problem. Possibly caused by turning the TV on. The only resolution I've found is to restart everything. 1800 1st player 2nd.

I kinda figured it was a handshake issue. That's why I'm going back to the component and optical. More curious if anyone else had the same issue.

I read on one the threads here that if you are having these types of issues to"Reset The Processor" I have not done this to either of my Yamhah AVR but it's worth a try. I think it is in the Advanced Set up in the manual or use the search for this site as I have read where several other AVR problems were fixed by doing this. Just a thought.

Is the TV off when you switch from optical to HDMI and then after making the switch on the receiver you turn on the TV (or change the TV input if it was already on)?

Generally the sink device (the one you are connecting to) needs to be on first and waiting for the intial handshake from the source device. So TV on first at the correct input, cable box on, then receiver on (or switch its input) should work unless one of them is defective.

TV is off. I'll have to play inside the Harmony menu to see if I can't figure out the order things are being sent. I did switch everything over to component and optical. No more handshake issue...that is until I have to get a new box which probably won't support HD over component.

Did you reset the Processor? Resetting The System will sometimes cure these HDMI issues. Look in the Yamaha owners manual "Reseting System" My guess is you have and did not post.

No. The idea of resetting the processor wasn't posted until after I'd done everything. On the plus side, I have an HDMI cable available now for plugging in the laptop to watch Hulu!

Will resetting the processor erase all the other settings? (No, I haven't looked at the documentation/manual to see if there's an answer in there.)

No need. Adam is back. In Yamaha waters he likes being called 'Bob'.
He will read your manual for you and confirm what I have only guess at. :D

Yes it will default back to Factory setting. You will have to run YPAO
again and change back any other settings you have changed, macros, learned functions, set up control I.D. etc. Yes it's a pain but so is Not running HDMI and or having switching issues. I am sure this other memeber(Adam) will guide you thru this. I have friend like that too he can pick up my remote and go thru the Advanced Set Up Menu like I turn off the Tv :) Good luck hope you sort out the problem and post up how it was cured.

It's "cured" at this point. I had already moved all the connections around. It only took about 10 minutes. I may end up resetting it, but, I'll have to map out all my connections first.
