hi Im Vinny Living in Norway I just BROUGHT a Yamaha RXV-650, pair of Ns555, Centre speaker ns444 and a pair of Polks Rti 4 for my SURROUNDS..I love the sound but I keep on reading that I might need a bigger amp????

The manual should tell you about hooking up to an amp,although I had a RX-V620 & it didn't have any pre-outs for an external amp. Without pre-outs you can't add an amp to it.

yep I have pre outs the manual just says link pre outs to amp but where in the amp( sorry It must sound stupid but I just dont know....it must be staring me right in the face

If the receiver has pre-outs they are usually labeled as such. Be sure not to confuse the pre-outs with the multi-channel analog inputs.

Say you have 5.1 preouts on the receiver and are using a 5 channel amp. You simply connect an audio cable from the L pre-out to the L input on the amp, the R pre-out to the R input on the amp, and so on. You can use any audio cable you like or you can buy a set of cables that are color-coded according to the THX spec for each channel; ie L=white, R=red, C=green, etc (just to make it easy to identify at a glance which is which).
