Hi,

I just purchased a 2500 and so far very impressed with the sound clarity and all the features. I doubt if I will master all of them but the auto setup is great which gets one off to a good start. I set the unit on an open shelf with nothing to either side and approx 11" above. I have tested a few DVDs and CDs and I find the temperature of the unit (when placing a small thermometer on the top of the unit) to be over 110 degrees farenheit, is this normal, do other owners find their units reach a similar temperature?

Thanks

John

Mine runs warm... but nothing out of the ordinary. I haven't measured the temp but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Most receivers and amps have heat fins to disapate heat that is generated by the unit. Other units use one or more small fans to remove the heat generated. This is why most manufacturers recommend the unit not be confined in an air tight rack.

Every receiver and most amps that I have "felt" are quite warm to the touch. There have been a few big amps (Krell, Threshold, Mark Levinson etc) that I have come across who's heat fins almost got hot enough to burn the hand that touches them. 110F doesnt seem all that warm compared to other equipment.

Yup, normal to get hot. Good idea not to stack another component on top of the reciever.

You will always want to leave some space between your components. With this particular yamaha unit, (as with the older 1400 & 2400 ) the heatsinks are mouted horizontally in a "tunnel" type fashion with a fan positioned between them and thhe transformer. If the temp gets up to dangerous levels, the fan will kick in.

Ross.
