Just a quick question. While watching DTS movies, I can only get DTS to light up on my reciever while using Yamaha's DSP modes. If I try and watch a movie in any other mode besides DSP, DTS disappears. Any reason for this? Will DTS only decode in Yammi's DSP modes?

If it's happening in the DSP modes, is it DTS:neo 6?
Has the dts been turned on in your dvd player's setup menus? Most players ship from factory, with it turned off. Set it to output bitstream, not PCM. Then set receiver to digital auto. You have to choose the dts track in your movie's menus, under "Audio Setup or Languages". You probably already knew this, but had to make sure............
Good luck! :)

JVC has pretty much nailed it. Yamaha handles DTS just fine, and that's not something that can really break, apart from other more noticeable problems.

DTS: neo 6 does not light up on the reciever, just DTS. When I play Gladiator and select the DTS: ES track, DTS ES lights up on the front of the reciever. I actually have set the DVD player to bistream and not to PCM. The reciever is set to digital audio and I'm using the fiber-optic cable from the DVD player to the reciever. When I select the DTS track under languages or audio setup, DTS will light up on the front of the reciever but only when I am in the DSP modes. I'm wondering if there is some kind of setting in the GUI for the reciever that I can change for this. Should the reciever play DTS in other modes besides the DSP ones?

I was actually having concerns w/ the DTS mode and my 2500, but thankfully cleared it up. When you select DTS and there is no DTS track on the DVD, then you will get silence. If you select Auto on the input button, then it will play a DTS encoded movie. Sounds like you have everything set up correctly. I have set my input mode to Auto and as they say, set it and forget it.

I'll have to check it out when I get home. I'm assuming that you set it to auto using the input stuff in the GUI of the reciever. I'll have to play around with it. By doing this, will DTS play in other modes besides the DSP ones?

Just hit input on the remote until you see auto appear. Not sure what you mean by "will DTS play in other mode besides the DSP ones". DTS will only play when a DVD has DTS encoded in it. You normally have to manually select that option within the DVD's menu. By setting your receiver to Auto, it should automatically pickup up the DTS mix and play it as such, after you have selected DTS on the DVD's menu.

You cannot play a non-DTS DVD in DTS. You can play non-DTS movie/music in DTS Neo 6 music/cinema. For instance, you can watch any TV show on any channel in DTS Neo 6 but you can't watch that same show in DTS. I think you may be a little confused on how DTS works, or maybe I am? :D

I think I understand how to do select the auto now. I know that I can't watch a movie not encoded with DTS in DTS. The problem that I am experiencing is that when I select the DTS track in the Languages or audio portion of a DVD's menu, DTS only lights up on my reciever when I am using one of Yamaha's DSP modes. This makes me think that I have something set up wrong. From what you are saying, if I hold the input button on my remote until "auto" appears, then maybe DTS will be displayed on my reciever in other modes than DSP?

I am going off memory right now since I am at work so bear with me. I have the RX-V1400 which is bascially the same unit. On mine, when DTS is being decoded, DTS or DTS ES appears spelled out on the display on the receiver. I think there is also a smaller DTS symbol that is lit up as well. Is that symbol what you are talking about while in other DSP modes? And, what DSP are you ref. to when you said,

"DTS only lights up on my reciever when I am using one of Yamaha's DSP modes."

I think selecting "Auto" for your input should do the trick. I'm guessing you may have it set to analog right now which will not "let" DTS into your receiver.

Exactly. Only the little DTS icon appears in far left portion of the recievers display. Spelled out on the display of the reciever is "General" or "Adventure" or "Sci-fi" basically which ever DPS mode I am using. What you are saying is if I select "Auto" for my input, then DTS or DTS ES should appear (whichever it may be encoded with on a DTS DVD) on the display?

Cool, I'll have to try that!!

Yes, select "Auto" as your input and DTS should automatically be selected when a DTS signal hits the receiver. The same will apply to Dolby Digital. You can also select "Digital" as in unput which will work but "Auto" covers all the bases whether it be a digital source or analog source. When the receiver receives and decodes a DTS signal from a DVD, DTS will display where the other DSP modes display. Same for Dolby Digital. You should hear a big improvement in sound when truly in DTS and DD modes.

Let us know if it works.

It worked!! When I hit the input button on the remote the display of the reciever showed "DVD AUTO" and I put in a DTS movie and toggled through the settings, "DTS" displayed for a moment and then was replaced by "Surroud". The small DTS Icon was also lit up on the left of the recievers display. When I played a DTS ES disk, The small DTS ES icon would only display on the reciever when the front of the reciever said "Surround Enhanced."

Congrats! Sounds like it is working fine now. I checked mine last night and I get the same "Surround" and "Surround Enhanced".

Now, kick back and enjoy! :D
