RX-Z7 displaying DTS Audio In for TrueHD/DTS-MA HDMI Bitsteam Input

For some BR’s when sending TrueHD/DTS-MA bit stream audio over HDMI from my Oppo BDP-83, the front display & Audio Signal OSD of the Z7 shows the audio input as DTS. While it is still 5.1 audio, I am concerned that there may be SQ loss since the Z7, which is doing the audio decoding, thinks it is DTS 5.1 instead of TrueHD/DTS-MA 5.1

For example, Transformers BR BDP-83 shows TrueHD as the output but the Z7 show DTS as the input.

300 BR shows TrueHD everywhere, including the Z7

Doubt & Taken BR’s BDP-83 shows DTS-MA but the Z7 shows DTS, I have previously seen these movies displaying as DTS-MA on the Z7

With the Spears & Munsil BR Test Disc TrueHD 5.1/7.1 & DTS-MA 5.1/7.1 all show correctly on the BDP-83 and the Z7

What gives? Is this something to worry about?

Is this something with the audio encoding of specific BR’s?

Has anyone else seen this on the Z7 with the BDP-83, or another BR player?

Is there something in the Z7 that I could have changed to cause this? I have looked everywhere I can find but haven’t seen anything

Could something with the firmware updates have caused this?

It sounds as if the Z7 is applying the DTS processing on top of the trueHD signal. There is nothing wrong with that, I have my 1800 set-up to apply Dolby/music on top of any incoming signal.
Try changing the output to straight, see if the DTS icon disappears.

Assuming you meant to try changing the audio input processing mode on the Z7 to straight? Tried that but the DTS icon stayed.

I typically keep the Z7 in Surround Decode mode with PLIIx Movie as the Extended Surround Mode. When in this mode, you can't choose to apply any specific decoding, it just goes on what is being input.

How would I go about applying DTS processing on top of the audio input? Maybe I turned something on without realizing it?

The extended surround mode is what I had in mind. Sorry if I talked down to you by over simplifying things.
I don't have another answer at the moment, maybe some one else can chime in.
I will most likely be watching a BD movie tonight. Probably some chick flick:eek:. I'll see what the display on my receiver says while I am. It's been a while since I paid attention to that.

Figured it out. Turned off the Secondary Audio option in the BDP-83 Audio Format Setup and bingo, everything works as it should. It would seem that with this option on the Oppo was down converting the TrueHD/DTS-MA to standard DTS on some discs, not sure why it only applied to certain discs, but it's fixed now :D
