RX-V4600 Surround Set-UP

I have an RX-V4600 with 5 speakers and want to know if the surround speakers should be connected to the SR/SL or the SBR/SBL outputs?

Seems the sound is not very dramatic from the surround speakers.
Home Theater Co. installed it in this manner and after calling them to confirm they say it is correct.
The back speakers are in line with the FL / FR speakers.

They set-up the sound with a decible meter using the THX menu on Pearl Harbor DVD so the sound capability is there but just seems to me the surround is not very dramatic.

I have an older BOSE surround system in my other room and the two back speakers are much more dramatic. The BOSE system has a set-up cd and during set-up / test the sound is sent to each speaker individually (similar to THX audio set-up) and when I use this CD on my new Yamaha home theater the sound is split between F/L and B/L when it is supposed to just be coming from the surround left speaker - same on the right side. But again, during the THX audio set-up good volume is heard only from the back right and left as directed.

So, I'm curious what others think - for an RX-V4600 receiver and using 5 speakers, should the back speakers be hooked up to S/L S/R or to the SBR SBL outputs?

Thanks

Jay

SL and SR. The SBL and SBR would be for the 6th and 7th speakers if you were running 7.1.

The surround speakers go to the SL & SR. Your RX-4600 is light years ahead of the Bose system. You can not use the Bose to judge how the RX-4600 system should sound. The Bose CD is designed for their systems only.

Speaker positions.

FYI, the surround speakers are supposed to be positioned on the sides of the listening position according to the Dolby spec. Read the AH articles for more details.
If they must be mounted on the back wall, put them in the corners pointed at the listening position. Re-run the auto setup on your Yamaha to account for any changes in speaker distances and SPL level based on these changes.

Help

I have a Yamaha v-4600. I am conneted to my plasma HDTV thru HDMI, as is my HD sat recvr and DVD player. The sound is minimal. In addition, the front panel indicates PCM, when I used an optical cable and component video cable the display would say "digital". I'm pretty new to this, what am I doing wrong? Thanks!
