RX-V2600 GUI Question

I just installed a Yamaha RX-V2600 and have an insanely stupid question. I have not yet hooked it up to a television, but noticed that most of the really important settings can only be managed from the GUI, which requires some kind of video monitor.

Now, am I just stupid (don't be afraid to confirm it!), or shouldnt there be another way where you can control these settings directly on the Receiver? I understand that you don't buy this type of receiver if you don't have serious video intentions, but just for the sake of argument I don't want to hook it up to a video monitor, does that mean I loose access to all the rich features?

I am hoping there is a way to do it, if someone knows, please tell me!

Thanks!

Simon

It is important to have it hooked up to the TV for ease of use, and most importantly to be able to make proper use of YPAO.
With a little practice however and some coming to terms with the logic of Yamaha's menu levels it is fairly easy to navigate through the more simple settings without the need of a video display.

Thanks! But something basic like a tone test to make sure all speakers are functional (and are who I think they are), requires the GUI, which I find a little limiting.

I have the 1500. On the display of the reciever it does try to tell you what it is doing. As I said this did take some practice, and it probably would have taken longer had I not been using the GUI. I can't imagine this has changed significantly on the 2600.
As you said you don't buy this reciever without the expectation of using it in conjunction with a display.
I do find the menu system to be a bit frustrating at times. There are some simple adjustments that I would like to do on the fly without navigating 3 levels deep. But in reality, after 2 years with this reciever, that would be about my only complaint. Not bad. My advise; get used to it, let it go :)
