RX-V2500 shutting down

I have a Yammie 2500. It is running in somewhat of a large room. I tend to turn it up loud when listening to music. When cranked up I notice the front panel dims with the beat of the music and tends to shut down after about 10-15 mins. of hard play. I talking anywhere from -12 to -4 depending on what source I am listening to. The receiver seems to run very hot but my dealer said that was normal. Any ideas?

I used the auto setup and the ohms are set correctly to 8.

It has happened on 7 channel stereo and on enhanced surround.

do you have the fan set to "on" and some space clear above the amp ?

I did not know it had a fan option. I has about 1 1/2" to 2" of space above the unit.

Seven channel stereo is for LOW VOLUME only. Or for background music as the manual states on page 48.

Don't know. If the source is 2-channel, listen in 2-channel or 2.1 . If the source is DD, the use DD. If the source is DTS, then use DTS. I would not worry about using enhanced or any of the sound fields. For best results, playback music/movies in their intended mode. :)

For most applications I go with what the signal sent to the receiver. However, I have a bunch of Music DVD which dont always sound as hot as they should. Mostly because they are live concert type recordings. That is why I try to help them out with the 7 channel and the Enhanced. Im gonna stay away from the 7.1 for sure.

You've got a few choices.
1) Turn it down.
2) Add an external amp
3) Set the receiver to 6 ohm instead of 8 ohm. What you are doing here is lowering the output power by choking off the power supply, but it will likely cure your shut down problem.
4) Allow more breathing room above and to the sides of the unit, or add a computer fan above it running off of one of thw switched outlets through a 12V converter.
5) get higher impedence (8 ohm) speakers.

I would recommend #4 and #2. You can pick up a good used Carver or NAD on ebay for $200 if you shop around.
