Hi,

I'm having a minor problem with my new RX-V2400, in that I can't seem to get the DTS sound tracks to play. I'm using the coax digital, and the player is set up exactly the same way as it was for my previous Onkyo, which read and decoded the DTS just fine. I only get the Surround or Surround Enhanced to light up when playing a Dvd with the DTS track selected on the dvd menu. I do get sound.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you tried to push the dolby/dts button repeatedly on the remote? What about the set-up menu on the dvd player? It should be set to Bitstream & not PCM.

This is all I can think of, but there are many more knowledgeable than I here!

Yep and Yep, but thanks. When I push the Dolby/DTS button, it just toggles between 'Surround' and 'Surround Extended' and nothing else. I'm going into the DvD's menu and selecting the DTS track.

I did do a search and found a guy in Germany has the same problem with much advice to him posted in German. Here's some interesting advice as translated by Google:

"Do you try to bring degrees the DTS trace of curse of the Karibik to running? does not funzt with many. "

I'm sure that this is the solution..... if I can only figure out how to implement it.

speakin me deutch, maybe try an e-mail to yamaha tech support for a faster answer. I'd say try toggling the format buttons also on the remote and see but it sounds like you have already. My unit detects the dts signal fine so shoot em a message, sorry I don't have a better answer.

Make sure you have DD/DTS bitstream enabled on your DVD player audio set-up menu. Then select the DTS soundtrack in the DVD menu. On your receiver, set it to "Auto". Once it locks on, press DTS button.

Problem Solved?? The curse of the Karibik!

Ok, upon looking closer at the manual, I noticed that the picture showing the DvD hookup showed *only* an optical connection, and (very)small note mentioning U.S.A model). This is the picture on page 16. The other connections showed both optical and coax, so I had initially assumed that this was an error, as there is a coax input (#8) clearly labeled 'DVD'. As my previous receiver had been hooked up coax, I had justed tranfered this cable over.

Well, I ran out and got a toslink, unhooked the coax, and hooked up the optical, and volia' ( I think).

The reason why I think- is that now the little DTS symbol is illuminated, which it wasn't before.

However... the Orange dots that spell words (whatever you call them), still only say 'Sur. Standard' or 'Sur. Enhanced', they do not say DTS, though the symbol is illuminated. Not quite what I was expecting, but perhaps some of you other 2400 owners can tell me what it should look like. Repeated pressing of the Dolby/DTS button, the one between the THX and Night buttons only toggles between the two. Is this right?

I did pull out the manual for the DVD player and it's working, also as there is no other connection except the digital one to the receiver, if it wasn't putting out the digital signal, I'd get no sound at all.

At least progress seems to being made, though I'm beginning to wonder if I indeed have a funzt-ed receiver?

The two Dolby setting you are getting are for 5.1. If you have an ES or an EX source it will saly Dolby ES/EX and play all 7 channells independantly.

If you do not have ES/EX source can also set to THX though DTS is better.
