RX-V1600/2600 Remote - Infra Red?

Tried to find on forums and Yama's site, but I guess no detail means the answer is 'yes'.

Is the remote control with these units infra red? Or radio? Because I don't have enough height in my furniture for the box I want (and I want the box, the wife want's the furniture).

So, if it's line of sight, any recommendations for infra red receiver/relay/transmitter thingys so I can put the box behind closed doors?

Thx!

99.99% of remotes are IR.

There are a number of options for ir repeaters and extenders ranging from cheap (Pyramid and Radio Shack) to far more capable RF remotes with base stations that blast ir.

If you want to keep the Yamaha remote and just use a repeater, search for Pyramid, Niles, Xantech, etc products. Crutchfield is a good place to start to see the types that are available. IMO, an RF capable remote and base station like the MX series from Home Theater Master is a far better choice if you will have all of your components behind closed doors.

Make your remote RF

Check out this product, the RF Remote Externder from Next Generation Technology. It converts your IR remote into an RF signal for use anyware within 100 feet.

If you want a single remote to control all your gear, check out the Harmany remotes. They cost $100 and up. The top of the line $300 Harmany also has RF built in.

One word of caution: equipment behind closed doors, amps/receivers in particular, will almost always cause heat issues. Make sure you account for ventilation for these devices.
