Hello all.

I’ve just entered the world of HDTV having purchase the Sony KVHX32M31 32" 16:9 TV and a HDTV SetTop box receiver.

HD Digital (free to air) TV is transmitted at 1920x1080 interlaced and 1280x720 progressive here in Australia.

Currently I’ve got the SetTop Box connected to the TV via component connection. I was wondering if I plugged it into the RX-V1500 and let the receiver do the switching as I did when I had a Standard Def TV am I’m going to lose any video quality??

Along the same lines, am I better off connecting my DVD player directly to the TV via component to take advantage of the resolutions that the TV is capable of?
DVD output resolution via component is 1280x720 progressive?

I cant find any details in the manual or otherwise on what the RX-V1500's capabilities are when it comes to switching TV signals (not upconversion).

Appreciate your help...

Aaron

Typically the component input bandwidth is listed - which is a lot more than you will be feeding with HD contnent (1080i/720p).

There should be no visible (or possibly measurable) video quality loss by using your A/V receiver to do the video switching for you. The goal of the A/V receiver is to just switch video, but not to degrade, amplify, or do anything else to the video signal at all. Yamaha is pretty good about this, so you should not have an issue with running all your video through the A/V receiver. That V is there for a reason you know. :)

Yes - do it - will be no problem at all.
