Hi guys,

I am on the market for a new receiver. Will use it to power 2 Def Tech BP9080x towers and one CS9080 center speakers. The towers are rated at 455w nominal power, but recommended input power is from 50 to 300w.

Link to speakers' manual (specs on p.13):

I am replacing an entry level Yamaha unit, so I figured I will go with a Yamaha again. I am debating between RX-A2080 and RX-A3080. I don't plan to hook up more speakers anytime soon, but the RX-A3080 will push a little more power.

Right now the 3080 is $350 more than the 2080 model... Is it worth the extra investment? Thoughts?

I think your splitting hairs with those two receivers. But just get the 3080, $350 is worth the extra investment, even if it's just to keep you from thinking , what if? After listening to the 2080 for a couple of weeks, you'll be thinking, how much better would the 3080 sound?

I doubt you will need the extra power for the DT.

I used to own the DT BP7000SC (fronts),CLR3000 (center),and BP7001SC (surrounds). I powered them just fine with a 50WPC Harman Kardon 5.1 AVR in a 15x17 room.

So they should not need that much power.

I think the only reason to get the 3080 is if there is a chance you will add more speakers (5.1.4).

But like Little Wing says, will you have remorse if you don’t spend the extra $350 for a flagship. :D

I agree with little wing, and would go for the 3080. It won't make a difference in terms of power or sound quality, but the 7.1.4 flexibility/capability makes it a little more future proof for a little more $.
