Hi all, I enjoy the forum and have learnt a lot from reading in different areas.
My question today for those that may be able to help is that of the above amps.
Have not been able to choose between the Yamaha and the Denons but will probably make my decision based on the answer to this....
1) I have a set of E870 front speakers (bi-wireable) rated at 150W/220W 4ohm and want to bi-amp them from the receiver. As far as I can gather the Denons can assign channels but I do not know if they will run the 4ohm speakers as I can only find info on ratings into 8 and 6ohms. Further to this AFAIK the yamaha rates at 190w into 4ohmsx7 but i dont know if I can bi-amp to my fronts. I have listened to the 2807 and 2600 and am leaning towards the Denon as I like the sound marginally over the Yamaha but is hard to tell in a store.

2) I have also read on the forums that the HDMI capabilities of these amps is outdated (1.1 changing to 1.3) I think, but may have misunderstood. Having HDMI is not crucial to me (but would be nice) so if I buy one of these amps with HDMI as a factor in whether I buy it or not am I buying outdated technology? If so can someone recommend some other amps that may suit the above?

I listen to music and watch dvd about 50/50 so am trying to have my cake and eat it too...
Thankyou in advance for your replies and have a musical day....

Denon 3806 works with 4 ohm loads

The Denon 3806 handles 4 ohm loads fine; I used the Denon's biamp features with my theater speakers (4 ohms at each terminal) for a few months and never had a problem even at pretty loud volumes. Only reason I changed my set up is I incorporated some external power amps and just use the Denon now as a prepro, but I never had a problem using the Denon 3806's internal amps.

Regards to point number 2, Satellite providers are still working off version 1.0 of HDMI interface and the receivers are being built to version 1.1. Net result, until Satellite companies do a firmware update to match up the two, you cant use the receiver as a pass through for digital tv. If there is an impending HDMI version 1.3, it will probably make matters worse...

This issue is pretty much obliterating the HDMI switching capabliities of this generation of HDMI capable receivers. Making them a very expensive mistake since the HDMI switching capability is what makes them so expensive in the first place.

The saving grace is that the HDMI interface seems to work flawlessly with DVD players. So maybe you can have 2 DVD players and switch them throught the amp while you wait for the cable companies and receiver manufacturers to get on the same page. ;-)
