running two subs

I am about to purchase a Boston Aacoustics XB4 for a fairly small room. I am matching this up with a set of VR2's, a VRC,and VRX,s powered by a dennon AVR987. If I was to move to a larger space can I just add another sub or should I purchase the bigger sub at this stage. I was told that having two can better distribute the bass throughout the room.

If you have the money and the space, go with 2. If you don't one large one will work fine also.

That is correct, two subwoofers will distribute bass better than one.

Hey Phil,
I have pretty much the same set up as you, minus the center channel. I'm thinking of getting a VRC, but have been told that the VR10 might be a better choice. Can I ask, what sold you on the VRC?

Excuse the delayed reply. To answer your question - "Cost" I was able to get all this equipment @ 60% off retail. I was limited on the choices and this was the best that was available to me. I would be curious to know more about the VR10, is this an older design?

Yeah. You can find them every once in a while on eBay. The VR12 is a very highly valued center as well, that is the big brother of the VR10. But those ones usually go for at least $300 on eBay. I just can't get myself to spend that much on a 5 year old speaker.

You can add as many as you like and have the outputs from the other main channels LCR surrounds being feed though a mixing console with multiple outputs and then assign the different parts of the room with spot frequencies test while watching the RTA and SPL db metre at the listening position.

Once all has been calibrated run a few tests with a few films to see what else is left to attend too.

Its real easy than you might think and it would offer greater flexibility and control as you only need the right amount of sub bass low end to accompany the films soundtrack and not forgetting the differences in LFE.1 that is a very unpredictable subwoofer channel and needs special care in making sure you never overwhelm the soundtrack it should merely reinforce certain key moments in the film and is easily reckonable when turning it on and off while playing back the same sequence in the film.
