Run 2 inputs at once?

I have everything (tv [cable box], turntable, ipod & ps3) running through a Yamaha rxv765.

My 1 question is if theres a way to play music while watching tv? The 765 has 2-zone capabilities, but thats not really what I'm after.

Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks!

Your receiver receives discreet commands, including which audio OR video input it needs to go to. If you use a universal remote, you can set up a button that tells it to go to CableTV video input and DVD audio input. If you're using the remote it came with, you'll need to use whatever they have for personalized settings or go into the menu to change the video input for that audio source.

The easy way is to use a universal remote. YOu can call it whatever you want and you can create macros for the button if it's a device-based remote, like URC, Pronto, RTI, UEI. If you use a Harmony or other activity-based remote, you'll need to create an activity for each AV combination or add the buttons in each video activity that allows selecting a different audio source.

If that Yamaha is set up the way of Yamaha receivers of the past, all you have to do is switch directly from the video input to the audio only input (i.e., you have it switched to the appropriate video input, and then you directly select the appropriate audio input), and you are good to go, as the audio only input does not switch the video away from what it was before. You will probably need to do this from the remote, as Yamaha tends to make their receivers such that you switch through different inputs on the unit itself, but directly select different inputs from the remote. Try this, and let us know if it works. (You can also consult your manual, which probably explains how to do this.)
