What is the difference between the Rocket line and the Reference line from AV123? I'm considering snapping up some of those good deals. Which should I go with? Asking as these two are the same price right now. Towers may not be necessary in my room, but comparisons between the two will be very useful.

I finally hooked up the new RX-V661 I got to the b-stock RS250 yesterday and managed to listen to a couple of pieces. I haven't done any calibration or setup of the speakers or anything like that yet, nor have I experimented with placing, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the Rockets. They seem to lack clarity. Punchy but a little muffled also. It could very well be my room. In fact, I'm sure the room is horrible in all possible respects but there isn't much I can do about that.

Please respond quickly and help me out with the Rocket/Ref question :).

No help on Rocket vs Ref? Ok, maybe I should head over to the AV123 forum and ask.

I wouldn't judge the whole Rocket line buy the RS250's.

From my understanding between the two series is the Rocket line excels in home theater. While the Reference line is better for 2 channel, or multi channel music.

I have also read posts where guys rave over their Rockets with music. Like an other speakers sound quality is a personal thing.

You also have to keep in mind that the break-in period for Rockets must be observed and break in procedures should be adhered to.

I am using Onix Reference Speakers for HT

And they sound nothing short of fantastic! I bought 4 of the Reference 1.5's, which is the Tower version of the Ref1's, when they closed them out for $750 a pair and the Reference 100 Center Channel. Remember that these are 4 ohm speakers so you will need power, I am running an Outlaw 990 pre-pro & 7200 amp with mine.

I have never heard the Rockets so I cannot compare the two but my Reference's replaced a set of Energy Connoisseurs which aren't too shabby speakers themselves and I found them to be a much more detailed speaker then the Energies with a better imaging - the imaging on References is unreal.

At the current prices they are selling the References for I would SERIOUSLY consider going with 3 Reference-100 center channel speakers for the front, which are LCR Speakers and can be positioned either way. Three R-100's will produce some serious sound and will fill a large room. Three R-100's for the front and a pair of Ref1's or even the Ref 0.5's for the surrounds would give you an AWSOME, perfectly balanced setup for HT or Music as your fronts will be exactly the same and the rears will have the exact same 5.25" Atohm Drivers as the fronts. I have always found that if speakers sound really great with music they will also sound really great for Home Theater.
