rs-232 is the protocol not the connector type so its possible that different receivers use different connectors, although unlikely. A quick google will find all the information you could ever want. Okay. The Yamaha RX-V2500 has a DB9 connecot ron the back. It says in the manual it is a RS232-C terminal. A control expansion terminal for commercial use. To me that means it is not for communications, for upgrading the firmware, etc. But a means to possibly interface with another device.
But remember that rs-232 is just the protocol for sending data to it. It has to understand the data you send in order for it to do anything. It may support remote control commands and they just don't publish that fact but unless you can find info on the data format it expects, you won't get too far.
