Room setup for two channel

First, let me apologize for the lousy renderings. Second, if you offer any suggestion: THANKS!

Here’s my situation. This is my basement. It is finished with standard drywall and carpeted. I will be using it for two channel listening. I can go with “option 1,” which makes the actual listening area one of two longer sections in my room. I can choose either of them.

Or I can go for “option 2,” which utilizes more of my room. I am leaning toward option 2, because it seems to give me more flexibility in the future, i.e., speakers that are difficult to place. And of the two options, # 2 sounds better. There will be bass traps in the corners and absorption panels at initial reflection points. As I said, I am leaning toward “2” but I am a novice and am wondering if there is something inherently wrong with this setup.

My gear: Mac mini, Dacmagic Plus, Cambridge separates (840w & 840e), and Acoustic Zen Adagios.

Thanks for the help.

Option 2 is the better choice. First it gives you more space between the speakers and the side walls. That will produce a wider soundstage. Also being the depth of the room is longer, allows you to place the speakers farther into the room. That will give you a deeper soundstage.
As the seating is past the mid wing-walls, I would toe-in the speakers so more of the direct sound goes to the seat and less hitting those wing walls.

Seriously, I have no life.
And, with option two, your speakers will have an equal distance to the side walls, much preferred.
