My bedroom it is about 12x12. My tv is a 40" Samsung LCD with a 5.1 setup. I am a college student living at home to save money. I would like to get rid of the dresser, but I dont think its possible since we really have no place to store it. I also need to keep my computer desk since I need it for school work.

Here are a few 3d renders of the current setup

I have already made a few changes; in that little spot on the left side I put my amp and other guitar stuff in there, granted I still have my guitar on the wall (which will probably stay) and my other 2 guitars on the floor :/

Heres one of my layouts (pretty much the same as my current aside from a few rearrangements)

The window is not to scale in the renders. If I do wall mount the tv there, the edge of the tv would be at the edge of the window. Would that be too distracting/funny looking?

Heres the 2nd layout

Should I get speaker stands or mount the speakers on the wall (next to the tv). Should I keep my tv stand or get a new one? It seems too small for the tv. If I keep my current stand should I paint it black or keep the wood?

Either of those layouts can work.

The first one gives you more space to the sides and a bit more walkway but at the expense of sitting back by the wall.

The second one looks a bit tight to get around but you have a lot more space behind you for better bass response and surround feel.

3dsmax :D

Tonight, err this morning I could not fall asleep until, about 2 and half hours ago and now I am up.... I can do what my current layout is, except reverse it. Desk and tv on the opposide side, bed on the opposite, etc. It would work If I could get rid of the dresser but I really dont know.

You are pretty talented and seem to have your head togehter. What are you studying in college? Both of your ideas ( or now trhee look good). I lie the two with the speakers on the stands and of those l like the one better with the speakers away from the door ( last rendering).

Good Luck in with you HT and in your college pursuance!

Cheers!

P.S.- If only I were as focussed and as mature when I was in college :D

....

I prefer the last one as it gives the HT area it's own space :)

Thanks! the 3d renders were done in max, the layouts/top views were done with a trial copy of Room Arranger.

Currently, I am majoring in Biology and plan on going premed, but with my current grades I really dont know if I can get into med school, granted I am a minority but that can only get me so far :/ haha

Should I actually get speaker stands or just wall mount the speakers like so

^^^ In that render the desk is turned the same was as the tv, should I have it like that or turn 90 degrees on the other wall?

So what kept me from sleeping was this layout (if I can take my dresser out)

I would have my current stand (unless I can buy an actual av shelf) would be either in the corner or near the computer (so I dont have to spend 50 bucks on a longer dvi cable) would have all the av equipment. The catch...there is an outlet where the tv would be but it only works when the light switch is turned to on...really lame. Therefore, I would have to get a longer power cord for my tv to reach another outlet and/or the av equipment outlet. Another thing is, I would need to buy some very long cables (granted it has to be done regardless, but with either of these where I have the equipment away from the tv I need even longer) I would need 2 15ft optical toslink cables, 2 15ft hdmi cables, a long dvi cable (if I have the equipment in the corner) and a longer vga cable (for my pc to the tv). About $80 bucks of cables, if I order online.

So yeah, I really need to pick a layout because I really need to get some sleep, and if I keep thinking about this stuff I will get none of it :(

Edit: GOOD NEWS! I can move my dresser. If possible I will try to leave it out, but I dont know if thatll work so I may just have to replace it with one of the smaller dressers we have in the house (half the size)

Well since it's a small room maybe wall mount would be best to give you some additional floor space. As for the sleep I think you and I are in the same place with that one......... :(:(

Thats what I was thinking too, might as well save $60 or something.

I cant decide what layout to do, either my 2nd or 3rd.

Okay important things first. Get your grades up get into med school! You can do it; Mozart helps the brain ( ...no  you don't have to play it all the time ).

I like speakers stands because you can tune your room for best sound, i.e move around. It you put speakers on the wall they are so permanent. Do you already have the speakers you are going to put on the wall or stands? If not the Cambridge Audio S30s have great sound and are pretty small about 9 1/2 x 9 x 6 they ar $219/pair delivered.

Anyway good luck in your endeavors!

Yeah I already have a panasonic 5.1 setup. Currently I have my front speakers mounted on the wall near the ceiling...lol

I dont think i would really notice too much if they were mounted or on stands but I guess I could figure that out later. I really need to just figure out the whole layout first.

This is how the tv would be...right under the lights.

Would that be bad at all? granted I normally have the lights off...

So I finished. It took a good 4 days...some how. Anyways, the wall cable management boxes were cut a little funny so there is a small gap but It doesnt bother me.

The black lonely cable is the vga cable that runs to my pc, when I get a new video card I will take out the vga cable and run an hdmi -> DVI. I will get a new htpc type computer case in a couple of weeks so yeah ignore that.
