Roku or Fire or Apple for Photos?

BSA pretty much talked me out of getting a photo printer for the Mrs. (Thanks.) Now I'm thinking of a way she can simply see her photos on the big TV, (3-4 year old Samsung).

She generally moves photos from the camera to her iPad. Sometimes she has photos on her iPhone. And she has some old photos on her Thinkpad. So the current use priority would be: (1) iPad (2) iPhone (3) Thinkpad.

The photos are almost a singular priority. Our internet speed is so slow that streaming to the TV is not always a pleasant thing, so we rarely do it. And we generally have a tough time even keeping up w/ the few TV shows we DVR. So really, just photos.

Anybody have a suggestion on convenient way a non-audiophile/techie can send or mirror her iPad photos to the TV? Thanks!

I think all of those devices will allow it. You may consider just the Chromecast as well, as I think it is the least expensive with the capability you want. If you have an Amazon Prime account though, the Fire would be the obvious choice because you will already get a ton of free content (once you get faster interwebz).

For iPad and iPhone, staying with AppleTV is a no brainer, but it won't be quite as easy if you also use Android or Windows-based devices. That's really not a problem, though- the apps for Roku handle this easily and I have used my iPhone to show photos, videos and play music using Roku app- it has a button that lets you choose Music, Videos or Photo. The photo section also allows using your fingers to change the size of the image on the screen, as you do on the device. Image quality is excellent and you can use the buttons on the screen to go to the previous or next image as well as swiping your finger. For a slide show, you can add music, too.
