Roku adds Amazon Cloud Player

I tried it out today and I have to say it sounds better than expected. I have a number of albums that I only have on the cloud that I have had to previously use a DAC from my laptop to hear on the systems. The interface on the Roku isn't the same as the web version, but it has similar functionality, though it does lack a few minor features so far. In terms of sound, I wasn't expecting much as it is just "good" via the DAC, but via HDMI from the Roku, it sounds pretty darn good for 256kpbs MP3 which is what Amazon provides you on downloaded tracks. It is no lossless, but 256 is the minimum I used to rip tracks at and it is passable.

Other devices (Samsung TVs) have added it as well, so it likely won't be long before it shows up on all major ones:

Amazon Cloud Player arrives on Roku, Samsung Smart TVs | TV and Home Theater - CNET Reviews

(wasn't sure if this belonged in media servers or sources, but I put it here).

Just purchased a Roku 2 XD since I heard that I'll soon be able to watch Time Warner cable channels on there, which is perfect since I don't want to add a new outlet and get a cable box for the system I rarely use.

Cable companies have figured out that streaming IS the next delivery method. Dish as a company and HBO as "channels" have done this already too, though not sure if their channels are on Roku, but I don't doubt that as we move forward more and more "channels" will show up on streaming devices.

I picked up my Roku2 XD last year also, but I hadn't been using it for a while since the PS3 added Amazon Prime. When I got the email about Cloud though, that made me happy; and now that I have the UMC-200, I can actually get 5.1 from this thing :)

The VEVO channel showed up on mine. I haven't checked it out yet.
